I haven't blogged in a while and I'm sorry about that. I just didn't have much to say. But all three hens are happy and healthy and I think glad to see spring arrive. They've been busy in the garden helping me turn the soil, keep the weeds in check and spread compost around.
I've had a number of three egg days and was surprised at how similar in size their eggs are when I collect them. And you are probably thinking, yea, what's the big deal. The big deal is that my hens range in size from 3lbs. to 8lbs. So how is it that their eggs are the SAME size?!?

This has nothing to do with eggs. I took a pottery class earlier this year and made a few chickens. This is the only one that didn't blow up in the kiln. I think it looks more like a duck than a chicken. But I'm still like it. |

This is Poppy's white egg. Usually her's are a tad larger and tip the scale right at 2 1/4 grams right between the L and XL category. Poppy weighs just over 3lbs. |

This is Coco's egg. She always puts brown calcium dimples at one end of her egg. She stopped laying for 5 days last week. Really freaked me out thinking something was wrong with her. And today, there was an egg. A tad small for her. Usually hers are in the middle of the XL category. Coco weighs 6 1/2 lbs. |

And last but not least, this is Honey's egg. And this is a normal egg for her. Just at the lower end of XL category. Honey tips the scales at 8lbs. She's a BIG hen. |
I've had hens for 3 1/2 years now and I still get excited to lift up that nest box lid and find eggs.
